Individual Retirement Accounts At Members First Credit Union, we offer four different Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA) that allow you to plan for the future while earning competitive monthly dividends. Regular IRA The traditional IRA account is available to individuals under the age of 70 1/2. The maximum yearly contribution is $4,000.00 per person per year, regardless of income level. For persons earning less than $4,000.00 per year, the maximum contribution cannot exceed your earned income level. Contributions may be tax deductible under certain circumstances (contact your tax advisor for further information). All withdrawals are considered taxable income, and distribution must begin by age 70 1/2. Regular Roth IRA Roth IRA Contributions are not tax deductible because they are made with after tax dollars. Contributions may be withdrawn at anytime, and earnings (dividends) on the account may be withdrawn after the account has been opened for 5 years and a qualified needs test is met. The maximum contribution is $4,000.00 per person per year, less any Regular IRA contributions. Rollovers or direct transfers cannot be made into the account, only contributions. There is no age limit on when the distributions must begin. If you're over 50, you can make an additional $500 yearly contribution to Regular IRA and Regular Roth IRA accounts. Converted Roth IRA This is a rollover IRA account, and cannot accept additional contributions. A rollover can be from a Regular IRA account as long as the adjusted gross income level is less than $100,000.00; however, the amount becomes taxable income for that year. Educational IRA This is a beneficiary account IRA. The account can only be established for a minor child (under the age of 18). As the name implies, this account is used for post-secondary level educational expenses, and distributions must begin by age 30. The maximum contribution per year is $2,000.00, and contributions can be withdrawn at anytime. Contributions to this account are not tax deductible, and each beneficiary is limited to one account. For additional information, please call us or e-mail your request to mail@members1stcu.org. Money Market Accounts Our new Money Market Account gives you easy access to your money plus a high rate of return as interest rates move with current market conditions. Unlike other investment options, money market accounts provide quick access to your money and you can write checks from the account. Members First offers three different account levels to fit your individual needs. The more you save, the more you earn. Account levels:
